Growing up in Toronto, Melisa Cannella grew up surrounded by different forms of music. Her family made music a part of everyday life, so it wasn’t a surprise that this would become Melisa’s very first love.
At the age of 9, Melisa became particularly smitten with the piano and began taking lessons with the Royal Conservatory of Music. It was there that her instructors discovered that she had a very special gift and her talent undeniable.
The journey of any artist is a difficult one. There were so many trying moments that could have easily caused Melisa to abandon her dreams. Thankfully, she was very fortunate to have such an encouraging, inspirational teacher in her corner, who not only believed in Melisa’s talent but in the individual behind that talent. It was because of that belief that profoundly changed her life and love for music forever.
Years later, her teacher encouraged her to share her talent with the world and become involved in entertaining the public. However, Melisa humbly declined as she believed that she had much more to learn, and therefore continued studying her craft with the Royal Conservatory. It was a decision she never looked back from.
As the years progressed, her confidence grew and her style developed into something exquisite. Melisa’s love for both music and the piano evolved. She was now ready to showcase her talent and very much wanted to share this experience with all those around her. She began giving private lessons to students who shared her enthusiasm for the art –giving birth to an entirely different level of passion that she had never known before. She was ready and it was time to bring music to life.
For over 10 years now, Melisa has done just that. The development of her unique style is a result of a lifetime of musical influence. The reaction to her talent is both immediate and incredibly intense. She is one of the finest contemporary impressionists of our time and truly brings life to the keys she so beautifully plays.
In 2002, Melisa gave birth to “The Ivory Key”. This was a venture that she took much pride in and it has blossomed into a remarkable business for her. Melisa’s schedule is increasingly relentless, and she is finding herself more in demand than ever.
Melisa has performed in many different venues across the GTA and Ontario, bringing life to every occasion. Here are some, just to name a few: The Roy Thomson Hall, The Granite Club, Casa Loma, King Valley Golf and Country Club, The Delta Chelsea Hotel, La Maquette Restaurant, The Weston Golf and Country Club, La Primavera Banquet Hall, The Supreme Banquet Hall, and many more. Melisa specializes in weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, galas, fundraisers, baby and bridal showers, retirement dinners, Christmas parties, residential events, Celebration of Life gatherings, and many more.
Having performed for over a decade in many different venues and arenas, Melisa Cannella is no stranger to being in the spotlight. She plans to continue performing and looks forward to more exciting musical journeys in the future.
